Disney Plus UK released earlier this year – and with Hamilton firmly out of the way, you might be curious about what's coming next to the new streaming service. The truth is, while Disney Plus has big TV shows set in the Marvel and Star Wars universes on the way, many of its most exciting projects are a little while away. Some original movies and shows are still planned for this year, though.
In terms of relatively recent big movies, we've had the on-demand launch of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and the streaming exclusive, Artemis Fowl. Disney Plus UK finally has Frozen 2, too, as well as the aforementioned Hamilton, a 2016 recording of the musical theater sensation. The visual album Black is King recently released, and the new series Muppets Now is rolling out weekly.
If you're still waiting to subscribe to the service, it's £5.99 a month or £59.99 a year in the UK (the Disney Plus free trial has ended, sadly). In return you get a treasure trove of streaming goodies from Marvel, National Geographic, and the Star Wars universe, which includes the entire Skywalker Saga with the streaming release of The Rise of Skywalker.
While future exclusive Disney Plus UK shows like WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are on the way, neither have release dates right now and have had their production impacted by the ongoing health crisis. One thing we do know is coming this year, though, is October 2020's The Mandalorian season 2, as the Baby Yoda-powered Star Wars TV series returns for more episodes.

How to sign up to Disney Plus
To get Disney Plus, all you have to do is head to the Disney Plus website, create an account, pick which tier you want and enter your billing details to get started. With your login details to hand, you'll then want to download Disney Plus onto the device of your choice, say a smartphone, smart TV, games console or tablet. Scroll down for a list of compatible devices.
Disney Plus free trial: is there one?
There is no Disney Plus free trial any more, unfortunately, as it was discontinued in June 2020. The cheapest way to get Disney Plus is the monthly deal, or you can wait and see if Disney offers another sale deeper into the year.
Will Disney Plus UK get Mulan?
You might've heard that in some parts of the world, Disney Plus is releasing Mulan for an extra cost ($30 in the US). The UK, though, hasn't specifically been announced yet.
"We are announcing today that in most Disney Plus markets, including the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and a number of countries in Western Europe, we will be offering Disney Plus subscribers the epic adventure Mulan on a premiere access basis beginning September 4" Disney's Bob Chapek said on an investor call, confirming the "price point will be $29.99 in the US and will vary slightly in other countries".
If Mulan is a 'Premier Access' option in the UK, it's worth knowing that Disney has shed more light on how renting Mulan on Disney Plus will work, via its Canadian help page. It suggest that if you pay the premium to 'rent' Mulan can watch the film as many times as they like, for as long as you're a subscriber. That means if your sub runs out after spending the extra, you'll lose access to Mulan, too.
Since UK cinemas are technically allowed to open right now, we'd still expect to see the movie hit the big screen here, but it would appear that a Mulan home release is at least a possibility. We'll keep you updated. This is just a one-off, though – don't expect Black Widow to follow suit.
Disney Plus UK movies 2020: what else is coming this year?
Disney Plus UK doesn't have many gaps in its library, but new movies this year have so far included Frozen 2, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Maleficent: The Great and Powerful. Over time, expect Disney to add more films to its archive.
Here are some of the movies we know are coming up:

- The One and Only Ivan (August 21)
- Phineas and Ferb: Candace Against the Universe (August 28)
- Secret Society of Second Born Royals (September 25)
Even though Onward released in the US in April 2020, it still has no release date on Disney Plus UK. We're hoping to see it soon.
Disney Plus: UK price and subscription tiers explained
Disney Plus costs £59.99 for an annual subscription, or £5.99 per month. These are the two available tiers, and you can cancel at any time. Unlike in the US, where it's bundled in with ESPN and Hulu, in the UK Disney Plus is a standalone service.
Either tier gets you four concurrent streams, unlimited downloads with a maximum of 10 devices and the option to create seven profiles.
In the US, you can gift a year of Disney Plus either digitally or in the form of physical cards, but no such option has been announced for the UK yet.
Disney Plus supports 4K and HDR streams
Disney Plus indeed supports 4K and HDR. When you're in the app, head over to the 'details' tab of a given movie or show and you'll see a section that says 'available in the following formats', which will explain if the content in question features 4K Ultra HD and HDR.
You now have every Star Wars and Marvel movie to watch in 4K with HDR. Enjoy!
Disney Plus UK: compatible devices and apps
Disney Plus has launched on pretty much any device you can name in the UK, including mobile devices, games consoles, streaming media devices and smart TVs. You can take Disney Plus shows on the go, too, downloading as many movies and shows as you can fit on your device, as long as you have an active subscription and connect to the internet every 30 days.
Disney Plus UK has launched on LG TVs, Sky Q, Apple TV, Roku streaming devices, Android (5.0 and later), iOS (11.0 and later), PS4, Xbox One, LG WebOS smart TVs, Samsung Tizen smart TVs, Google Chromecast, Now TV, and Amazon's Fire range of streaming devices.
One notable exception is the Nintendo Switch, which is still pretty poor at supporting streaming services.
Phillips' Android-based smart TVs support Disney Plus too. Your Samsung TV may be able to get Disney Plus, as well. Read our guide and discover if your TV can support it.
Disney Plus UK: shows and movies, including The Simpsons
Click to see the full list of Disney Plus UK movies and shows that was released at launch, and see what you can stream right now. Every Star Wars movie including The Rise of Skywalker is on there now, as well as a near-complete list of Pixar movies and Marvel movies. You've also got Artemis Fowl, Hamilton and Frozen 2 available to stream now.

You should be able to search for and download Disney Plus on the device of your choice, but here are some app links if you're having a bit of trouble. Disney Plus is available in web browsers, on Smart TVs, through Amazon devices, iOS, Android, PS4, Xbox One, Roku and almost anything else you can name (except Nintendo Switch).
Disney Plus: future shows and movies
In the future, Disney Plus is getting plenty of big exclusive shows. From the Marvel Cinematic Universe side of things, new shows include The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (TBA), WandaVision (TBA), Loki (2021), Hawkeye (2021) and animated show What If?. The first two shows were meant to arrive in 2020, but it's unclear now how much they'll be pushed back by the global health crisis.
Further off, expect TV shows based on Moon Knight, Ms Marvel and She-Hulk out of the Marvel stable. Unlike Marvel's Netflix shows, too, these will canonically be part of the MCU, and feature actors crossing over between the movies and these TV series.
Lucasfilm has a second season of The Mandalorian coming in October 2020, then further off it's making shows featuring Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi and Diego Luna's Cassian Andor from Rogue One. A new animated series called The Bad Batch is also coming, a spin-off of The Clone Wars.
Disney is also making a new TV series based on the Mighty Ducks franchise.
Disney Plus is on Sky Q and Now TV
Disney Plus made a deal with Sky to host Disney Plus on its Sky Q platform at launch. That means you can watch Disney Plus as well as your other Sky content – it'll just be added to your Sky bill. According to Pocket Lint, full integration into the Sky Q platform won't come until April, but you can watch Disney Plus through an app on your Sky Q box.
Disney Plus is also available on Now TV devices.
