Breaking: Apple lifts lid on super-slim Retina MacBook Air

After all of the waiting, Apple has finally unveiled its latest notebook – the Retina MacBook Air.

Apple's SVP of Global Marketing Phil Schiller described it as the most efficient notebook created. The 12-inch machine weighs two pounds and measures 13.1mm thick, compared to the 17.3mm MacBook Air – a different of 24%.

It has a resolution of 2,304 x 1440 pixels. It has a panel that's 0.8mm thin, making it the thinnest display built into a Mac.

The new MacBook's keyboard uses a butterfly mechanism built of a single assembly and dome switch that is apparently four times more precise than the scissor mechanism on the previous MacBook Air, allowing for more precise typing.

Apple launched the MacBook Air in 2008. It has been one of the company's last devices to get a Retina display after the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, MacBook Pro with Retina and iMac.
